Arrangements

My Arrangement series began in 1978. I had become somewhat disenchanted with the process of walking around with a camera, hoping to come across interesting things to frame with my lens: compelling forms, tonalities, and color contrasts. Nature photographs. Portraits. I became aware of the work of John Pfhal, who was producing really intreguing photos that involved manipulating things in front of the lens, prior to exposure. Many of these images were printed using the Dye Transfer process. All of these were made prior to the availability of digital tools, but clearly informed my future work, once these tools became available.
